We just had to find it. Somehow, in a remodel of a wonderful condominium that I recently sold, the return air duct got misplaced. You wouldn’t think it could be that easy to misplace an almost 2 foot by 2 foot opening in a wall and that has a classic grill covering. It is usually found somewhere in proximity to the forced air furnace since it is the way that a heat exchanger gathers air from the home in one spot after it has been conditioned and distributed throughout the house. The system is, thus, relatively closed (unless you open a window or door while the heat or air conditioning is running). In any event, in this particular property, the darn thing turned up missing. We needed to see through the walls. Not only that, we wanted to see through the walls to see if, by chance, although there were none visually apparent, there might be any water leaks or water intrusions.
Supermen from Thermal Solutions came to the rescue; Thermal Solutions (www.ThermalSolutions.net) is a young company using the latest technology to find sub surface information of interest. Dan Patrick, Founder and Thermographer, and his accomplice, Shaun Kearney, were recommended by my mold guru at Benchmark Testing. And they really came through. Dedicated, persistant, clever, unflagging, creative, fearless, bold, personable, helpful, all these adjectives aptly describe these two young technical wonders. They used an infra red camera technology to scour the insides of walls for any possible leaks (there were none) and, simultaneously, to narrow down possible areas where the missing return air duct could be hiding. Critters: they didn’t find any (and there was no evidence of any), but they could even have detected a critter inside the wall if it had been there. How cool is that?
But, seriously, (very) long story short…they found the missing cold air duct and they proved there were
no unseen water intrusions. Sometimes it just helps to be able to see through walls.
Between the technology and the ingenuity of these guys…they’ll find anything. If you have a need, give them a call. They also do energy audits. Think your heating ducts are leaking hot air? Let these guys show you where so you can get them sealed up.
